New Version of GameCola Is Finally Here! Posted on 2009-10-14 02:43:48

Oh, wait, did you think I was talking about the GameCola website? No no no. I meant the GameCola YouTube channel. (Heh heh.)

Yep, YouTube finally forced everybody into switching over to the new channel format, and there are some definite pros and cons about the whole situation:

Pros:

- Everything looks shiny and new

- Lots of JavaScript makes things makes everything fancier

- Much easier to navigate, once you know what you're doing

- Everybody's doing it

Cons:

- Everything is too shiny and new

- Lots of JavaScript messes everything up, including (but not limited to) my tabbed browsing habits

- Impossible to navigate, even when you know what you're doing

- Everything is completely disorganized

Ever since the big switch, our playlists have been in neither alphabetical nor chronological order, and the posting dates are all wrong. It's as though some YouTube intern was carrying our playlists to the new channel, slipped comically on a banana peel, and hastily piled them together and pretended like they had never fallen out of place. As it stands, searching for the videos you want is a mess.

Fortunately, we're able to organize the first 12 playlists on our lineup, so I've placed all the Phoenix Wright videos and Michael's runs of Mega Man 1-6 front and center, along with our Random GameCola Videos playlist.

Under better circumstances I'd want to put newer playlists such as The GameCola Podcast #15: We Are (Still) Drama Queens at the top of the list instead of, say, the ancient videos of Mega Man 6, which only I watched. However, believe me when I tell you it is much easier to navigate the videos when you don't have bits of Mega Man and Phoenix Wright strewn about every which way.

Speaking of Phoenix Wright bits, Michael has kindly produced more evidence--erm, videos for Episode 5: Rise from the Ashes, and they're being posted at the rate of about one or two per day for the rest of the week. Then, Paul has a special weekend video treat prepared for us. I'll give you a hint: it involves bathtime and at least one farm animal.

Mega Man II Posted on 2009-08-25 21:52:47

Good news for Mega Man fans!  I recently finished a video walkthrough for Mega Man II, the Gameboy game. Watch as Mega Man goes up against four bosses from the NES Mega Man 2 game: Wood Man, Metal Man, Air Man, and Clash Man (who is apparently related to Crash Man).  Then, watch as Mega Man fights four bosses from the NES Mega Man 3 game: Magnet Man, Hard Man, Top Man and Needle Man.

There's also a plotline about Mega Man fighting an evil version of himself from the future, but unless you have the booklet that came with the game, you won't know about it.

I was in a bookstore the other day, and I noticed that they're promoting a new "children's" version of Ender's Game.  How do they market this book to kids?  By having a kid-friendly cover.

I couldn't help but notice something odd about the cover for the children's edition.  See if you can't see what I mean...

They replaced Ender...with Megaman.

The GameCola YouTube page is chock-full of awesome right now. First up is my brand-new and quite impressive (if I do say so myself) run of Mega Man 4, which we all know is my favorite Mega Man game. As a result, the audio commentary this time around is arguably the best yet.

If you've resisted watching any Mega Man videos up to this point, this is a perfect place to start. The first three videos are already available for your viewing pleasure, and the rest will follow over the next few days. Even if you're not into Mega Man, you might actually like them, so take a peek!

Next up are some things you may have missed, such as Michael's handy tutorial on how to install older games on Vista:

Let's not forget about the now-complete Part 2 of Michael's blind run through Final Fantasy VI Advance, more clips from the Nickelodeon cartoon show Doug, Paul's run through the amusingly bad Super Back to the Future Part II, and Michael's handy video walkthrough of Mega Man X.

There's plenty to watch! Enjoy, and Happy 4th of July!

Mega Man: Dr. Wily\'s Revenge Posted on 2009-06-26 19:31:47

News!  My walkthrough for Mega Man: Dr. Wily\'s Revenge is officially completed.  This comes about one month after my video walkthrough for the same game.  Yes, it took me a month to type up a walkthrough when I had video footage showing what to do.  I am apparently very lazy.

In other walkthrough news, I think I might try making a walkthrough/guide for Treasure Mathstorm! or another Learning Company game (provided I can find a copy). Maybe I\'ll do The Oregon Trail, just for the heck of it.  I\'m not sure.

Alrighty! There's been a lot going on with the GameCola YouTube channel lately, so I wanted to cheerfully publicize what's new, and what's old that you might have missed:

- A complete walkthrough of the first and second cases of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for the Nintendo DS, courtesty of Michael.

- Two varieties of Mega Man: complete runs of Mega Man 1-6 for the NES with live commentary from Michael, and complete runs of Mega Man 1-3 with retrospective commentary from yours truly.

- Two musical/dance numbers from the Shirley Temple film Little Miss Broadway.
